Hidden Tokyo: Ikedayama Koen (et al.)

One of the best parts of joining a 'free-range' running club is that you get to go off the beaten track, and see parts of the city you would most likely never come across otherwise.

While a friend and I were running about, trying to figure out a good trail for a future run, we came across Ikedayama Koen. It is far enough away from any station that it was completely empty on a beautiful sunny Saturday morning, and it is a perfect little jewel. We both promptly forgot about time, and stopped to look at the autumn leaves glowing in golden sunlight. Moments like this just make you glad to be alive :)
And for some reason that is when it hit me: it is time for a trip. For work I will go to Dubai, and for filial piety Italy, but that is not the kind of travel I have in mind. I want an unscheduled week in a country I have never visited, with views I have never seen and mysterious foodstuffs (yes, I am actually completly ruled by my stomache). It is time to go. Jump on an airplane or boat with just a backpack, notebook in tow.
(No, these are not my photos. If you don't want people using your pictures, then don't put them on the internet)
Ah, but there lies the rub. Being gainfully employed means you have the funds for such trips, but not the time. And if you have the time, most likely you do not have the funds. I guess it will just have to wait until August...

In the meantime Wave-chan (who is also currently suffering from the travel bug) and I will drool over travel magazines and pictures of the Galapagos.

  1. Galapagos? Pfft. What's wrong with Africa? Lots of space to run - hey, we've got the best marathon runners in the world - and you could race against cheetahs - but you'll have to carry a gun. :p

PS: Actually. Seriously. Google Ngorongoro Crater, Zanzibar, Okavango Delta, Mala Mala Game Reserve.

    1. Hahaha, you overestimate my abilities, I am no Zola ^_−☆
I would LOVE to go! Climbing Kilimangiaro, seeing the churches in the desert of Ethiopia and going to South Africa are three of my goals/dreams^ ^

  2. Yeah, I'm feeling the need to go somewhere. It doesn't even need to be far away or even new, just away, escape, enjoy, and yes, eat good food!

    1. I think the cold weather might have something to do with it... Onsen trip time?

  3. That park looks beautiful! I love finding 'secret' parks. Unfortunately, the leaves are now falling around my way, leaving the parks looking bare and forlorn.

  4. Maybe a trip some place in Japan around New Year's would work? A nice onsen?

I haven't been able to leave this country for almost three years and it's driving me crazy. I have lots and lots of free time, but zero funds.

I will be going on a couple overnight trips, but its really not the same as a long ramble

  5. Them autumn leaves..!! My heart :> I love these little gems that take you away from the busy streets and dense crowds. I don't run, but I'd love to go there for a picnic or photographing.♪
What other countries were you thinking of? Between Dubai and Italy, it seems like you have some awesome spots lined up already! :)

    1. Hmmm, tough question.
Some small islands would be cool, as would Scandinavia (in the summer!)
I would like to see more of the Chonese sphere, and would love to go to Tibet or Mongolia!
